Clearly. Honestly. All the way in.
I've spent over 30 years as an optometrist helping people see the world more clearly. And somewhere alongside all of that, I've spent just as long learning to see inwardly— earning a degree in Theology, training as a spiritual director, and doing the kind of slow, honest inner work that doesn't fit neatly into any one tradition.
Today I teach at the seminary where I earned my degree. I sit with people as a spiritual director. I write about the sacred in the ordinary. And I create spaces — like the Reimagine retreat — for women who are asking the questions that matter most.
It turns out that seeing — really seeing — is the work of a lifetime whether you're looking through a lens or sitting in the silence.
I am an optometrist, a theologian, a spiritual director, a teacher, a writer, and a seeker. And underneath all of those: someone who believes that clarity — of vision and of soul — is one of the most sacred things we can offer another person.
Clarity is not the same as certainty. You can see clearly and still not have all the answers. In fact, the clearest moments of my life have often been the ones where I stopped pretending I did.
The questions are not the enemy. The willingness to keep asking honest questions — even when they cost something — is one of the most courageous acts I know. Thirty years of clinical practice and a theology degree both taught me this.
Seeing takes practice. Whether it's the eyes or the soul, vision doesn't just happen. It requires attention, patience, and someone alongside you who knows how to look.
The sacred is closer than we think. It shows up in the ordinary, the uncertain, the in-between. You don't have to go far to find it. You have to slow down enough to notice.
My work lives at the intersection of theology, spiritual direction, and contemplative practice. I work with people who are asking real questions about their inner life — and who want a companion for that journey, not a map to someone else's destination.
